Meet Our Team
Damien Cain BVSc MRCVS
Damien graduated from University of Melbourne, Australia in 1999. He worked for 4 years in mixed/equine practice in Australia before heading off to travel the world as many Australian vets do.
Over the next three years he worked as a locum equine vet in various parts of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, before settling down with a lovely girl from Yorkshire. He started working for us in 2006 for two years before returning to Australia with his now wife, Jo and their two sons.
We were very pleased that they decided to return and make Yorkshire their permanent home and we welcomed Damien back as our third partner in the Equine Centre in 2010. He has a special interest in equine reproduction and breeding with ‘problem’ mares as well as general equine internal medicine.

Ann was born in the UK but grew up in Australia and graduated from Murdoch University, Western Australia in 1998. She initially worked in a specialist equine surgical hospital in WA the dealt mainly with TB racing and reproduction along with high level competition horses.
She moved to the UK in 2002 and worked at Three Counties Equine Hospital in Gloucestershire for three years before moving to The Equine Veterinary Centre in 2005.
Her areas of special interest lie in medicine, respiratory, endoscopy, lameness & ultrasonography. Ann competed in both eventing and dressage in Australia and bred warmblood competition horses.
She spends her holidays scuba diving or trying to find the best food and wine. On her weekends off she likes to get out into the Dales and Moors walking with her partner and their two dogs.
Phillip McKervey MRCVS
Phil is our dedicated Equicall vet, covering every second week on call for us. He hails from County Down in Northern Ireland where his family breed National Hunt race horses.
He graduated from the University of Budapest, as did Ralph, then did an internship at Towcester Equine Practice followed by an equine vet position at Summerhill Equine Vets in the Cotswolds, before joining the Equicall and EVC team.
When he isn’t working he likes to spend time golfing and following horse racing.
Ralph graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest in 2017 after which he completed a one year internship in a veterinary hospital in the south of France.
He then went to complete a 2 year ABVP residency in Equine practice in the UAE.
In 2021, Ralph did a 3 months intensive training in equine reproduction in one of the Equine Arabian Stud farms in the UAE before joining our clinic.
His special interests are orthopaedics and reproduction.
You will also likely meet his lovely rescue dog Vino (pictured) who he brought with him from Dubai, Vino is getting used to being a ambulatory vet dog and spending all day in the car with his Dad.
Joana hails from Portugal. She graduated from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in 2018. Throughout her last year of vet school she did externships at the Equine Clinic De Morette (Belgium), Horse Hospital in University of Tennesse (USA), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lisbon (Portugal) and Hospital De Referencia La Equina (Spain).
After graduation, she completed a 15 months rotating internship at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in University of Lisbon, Portugal. Then, early this year, completed a second rotating internship at the Equine Clinic De Morette in Belgium.
Her special interests are internal medicine and ultrasonagraphy.
In her free time Joana enjoys swimming, going to the gym, spending time with her dogs and heading to the cinema.
I’m sure some of you have already had the pleasure of meeting Barbara, our newest veterinary surgeon to join the team.
Barbara completed her studies at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice and graduated back in 2019.
Upon graduating she completed an internship at Troytown equine hospital in Ireland. Then to gain more experience in different areas of veterinary medicine, she returned to Slovakia and worked at a small animal practice. Barbara’s most recent work has been at a practice in the beautiful Santorini.
Her favourite ways to spend her days off are horse riding, travelling and cooking.
She has been riding horses since she was 5 in numerous disciplines and worked at yards in her teenage years as a groom. From a young age she always knew she wanted to work with horses
Besides trying to organise all of us (more than a full time job lets face it!), Jo is also kept extremely busy running around after Damien, their two sons, the horses and their menagerie of animals. When she gets a chance she still likes to go riding herself and looks forward to the day the boys are all big enough to look after themselves…
A hilarious fact about Jen is that she is also a huge bingo fan! Jen’s whole family (nearly!) ride and compete and she is working hard to convert us all to the spotty appaloosa side.
Outside of work she has her time taken up with her TB*Cob “Kindle”, and running with her Springer Spaniel “Sam”. And an interesting fact about Emma is that she can “speak” sign language… How cool is that!
Ellie started with us in October 2018, though she and her family have been long term clients of the practice. Ellie is part of our cheerful and friendly reception team. When not working, she is kept busy with her own horses and going on walks with her family.
Though she does also likes to “relax” by playing the occasional game of Rugby.
Many moons ago she was a client with her lovely horse Jaz. She doesn’t have much time to enjoy riding these days with 3 young children keeping her busy!
If Beth does have an hour to herself she enjoys shopping & the occasional gin.
Imogen joined our office team back in October. She likes to keep busy outside of work juggling life with her 2 children, her Labrador, Crossfit and coaching a girls football team.
We know all our lovely clients have already made her feel very welcome.
