Meet Our Team
Damien Cain BVSc MRCVS
Damien graduated from University of Melbourne, Australia in 1999. He worked for 4 years in mixed/equine practice in Australia before heading off to travel the world as many Australian vets do.
Over the next three years he worked as a locum equine vet in various parts of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, before settling down with a lovely girl from Yorkshire. He started working for us in 2006 for two years before returning to Australia with his now wife, Jo and their two sons.
We were very pleased that they decided to return and make Yorkshire their permanent home and we welcomed Damien back as our third partner in the Equine Centre in 2010. He has a special interest in equine reproduction and breeding with ‘problem’ mares as well as general equine internal medicine.
Gabriele Vesco MRCVS
Gabriele qualified in Italy and spent 3 years in Sicily developing his equine veterinary skills. Gabri then moved to a busy equine clinic based in Inverness, Scotland where he has spent the last 3 years. That clinic is very similar to ours so he made an easy transition into life in Yorkshire.
He has a keen interest in equine lameness, pre purchase examinations and poor performance investigations. Gabri is a very likeable young man with an enthusiastic attitude supported by several nominations for Petplan vet of the year whilst in Scotland. Outside of work he enjoys horse riding, fishing, walking and cooking.
Jessica joins the clinic after spending 12 months at a busy equine hospital in Kent. She gained valuable experience in a hospital setting and is keen to extend those skills into an ambulatory role.
Jessica is born and bred in Yorkshire with our practice attending to her family’s horses for a number of years. In fact, Jess spent a lot of time at the Equine Veterinary Centre on student placement. Her dedication, care for horses, knowledge and enthusiasm meant we were keen to get her back to Yorkshire after her internship.
Jess is an enthusiastic caring vet with interests in equine emergencies, imaging and lameness. She enjoys riding, walking and spending time with her 2 dachshund dogs Squidge and Baby.
Chiara graduated at the university of Perugia, Italy in 2017 with a thesis on equine lymphoma and leukemia. Before graduation, she did a 1 year internship in equine medicine and surgery. After graduation, she won a research grant for an equine haematology project on draft and racehorses, that led to 5 publications and a congress invite.
In 2019 she moved to England to start an equine hospital and ambulatory internship, which ended in March 2021. And then we snapped her up to come and work with us.
Equine internal medicine, with a specific focus on Gastroenterology, is her main interest and her biggest aim is obtaining the European College in Equine Internal Medicine Specialist Certificate
In her free time, she love reading thrillers, cooking Italian food (we are looking forward to that once restrictions lift!), and hiking.
Chloe Smith MRCVS
I am sure many of you will have already had the pleasure of meeting Chloe Smith and Rumble…
Following graduation from the university of Liverpool in 2017, I started my career working in mixed practice in Yorkshire. After 2 and a half years I decided to persue my interests in equine veterinary medicine and completed an internship back at the University of Liverpool’s equine hospital.
My clinical interests lie in orthopaedics and I enjoy the challenge of a lameness work up. However during my internship I also really enjoyed investigating colic cases and caring for the inpatients in the hospital.
When I’m not in work I love exploring the great outdoors with my partner and our rescue dog Rumble as well as socialising with friends.

Ann Walker BBus BSc BVMS(Hons) GPCert(EqPrac) MRCVS
Ann was born in the UK but grew up in Australia and graduated from Murdoch University, Western Australia in 1998. She initially worked in a specialist equine surgical hospital in WA the dealt mainly with TB racing and reproduction along with high level competition horses.
She moved to the UK in 2002 and worked at Three Counties Equine Hospital in Gloucestershire for three years before moving to The Equine Veterinary Centre in 2005.
Her areas of special interest lie in medicine, respiratory, endoscopy, lameness & ultrasonography. Ann competed in both eventing and dressage in Australia and bred warmblood competition horses.
She spends her holidays scuba diving or trying to find the best food and wine. On her weekends off she likes to get out into the Dales and Moors walking with her partner and their two dogs.
Besides trying to organise all of us (more than a full time job lets face it!), Jo is also kept extremely busy running around after Damien, their two sons, the horses and their menagerie of animals. When she gets a chance she still likes to go riding herself and looks forward to the day the boys are all big enough to look after themselves…
Marie has taken over the Insurances as Angela has now moved full time to our compounding pharmacy. She is also involved in invoicing and reception, and with Richard and Ellie’s paperwork.
Marie’s spare time is taken up with her cycling and fitness craze with her husband and grown up son.
A hilarious fact about Jen is that she is also a huge bingo fan! Jen’s whole family (nearly!) ride and compete and she is working hard to convert us all to the spotty appaloosa side.
Outside of work she has her time taken up with her TB*Cob “Kindle”, and running with her Springer Spaniel “Sam”. And an interesting fact about Emma is that she can “speak” sign language… How cool is that!
Ellie started with us in October 2018, though she and her family have been long term clients of the practice. Ellie is part of our cheerful and friendly reception team. When not working, she is kept busy with her own horses and going on walks with her family.
Though she does also likes to “relax” by playing the occasional game of Rugby.
