Laminitis, inflammation of the laminae which hold the pedal bone in position, is an extremely painful condition and can cause irreversible damage to the hoof. There are a number of different causes and a wide range of risk factors. Horses and ponies with EMS or PPID (Equine Cushings) may be at increased risk of laminitis.
