Meet Our Team
Richard Coppack BVSc GPCert(EqPrac) CertAVP(VetDerm) MRCVS
Richard is born and bred in Yorkshire and graduated from Liverpool University in 1985.
He then worked in mixed, mainly large animal practice in Cumbria and Northamptonshire, before a stint doing voluntary service overseas.
Upon returning to the UK he worked in North Wales in companion animal practice dealing mainly with horses, before settling back in Yorkshire in 1991.
He started the Equine Veterinary Centre in 1999. Richard has now passed his Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology and is performing intradermal skin testing and providing advice both within our practice and as a referral service to surrounding veterinary practices.
His areas of interest are dermatology, surgery, ophthalmology, foot management and lameness. Richard combines work and a busy family life with three lively children and playing football in his spare time..
Ann Walker BBus BSc BVMS(Hons) GPCert(EqPrac) MRCVS
Ann was born in the UK but grew up in Australia and graduated from Murdoch University, Western Australia in 1998.
She initially worked in a specialist equine surgical hospital in WA the dealt mainly with TB racing and reproduction along with high level competition horses.
She moved to the UK in 2002 and worked at Three Counties Equine Hospital in Gloucestershire for three years before moving to The Equine Veterinary Centre in 2005. She became a partner in the practice in 2007. Her areas of special interest lie in medicine, respiratory, endoscopy, lameness & ultrasonography.
Ann competed in both eventing and dressage in Australia and bred warmblood competition horses. She spends her holidays scuba diving or trying to find the best food and wine.
On her weekends off she likes to get out into the Dales and Moors walking with her partner and their two dogs.
Damien Cain BVSc MRCVS
Damien graduated from University of Melbourne, Australia in 1999. He worked for 4 years in mixed/equine practice in Australia before heading off to travel the world as many Australian vets do.
Over the next three years he worked as a locum equine vet in various parts of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, before settling down with a lovely girl from Yorkshire.
He started working for us in 2006 for two years before returning to Australia with his now wife, Jo and their two sons. We were very pleased that they decided to return and make Yorkshire their permanent home and we welcomed Damien back as our third partner in the Equine Centre in 2010.
He has a special interest in equine reproduction and breeding with ‘problem’ mares as well as general equine internal medicine.
Lara Gosling BVM BVS (Hons) BVMedSci (1st class)
Lara qualified from Nottingham University and worked for a short time in small animal practice, then completed an internship at Endell Equine Hospital in Wiltshire, gaining valuable experience in both a referral hospital and first opinion ambulatory setting.
After finishing her internship she did 2 months voluntary work in Egypt at the Equine Hospital, Animal Care Egypt(ACE), before starting with us in January 2015. She is a keen volunteer and worked with the Riding for the Disabled while she was at University.
Ellie Griffiths MRCVS
Ellie qualified from Liverpool University and originally worked at a 100% equine practice in Rutland where she is from.
She joined us in March 2016 along with her little dog Gertie and her mare Rosie.
In June 2016, Rosie produced a lovely little filly Poppy who features in Ellie’s picture above.
Ellie has a special interest in dentistry particularly in our senior horses.
Claudia Ryan BVSc MRCVS
Claudia graduated from Liverpool University and is from over the pennines in Cheshire.
She joined us in August 2016 along with her two horses, Amber and Archie.

Jo, who is also Damien’s wife; first started working for us part time in 2012. She is now our practice manager and also sorts out the accounts for the business. You can contact her on the main office line.
She is kept extremely busy the rest of the time running around after their two sons, the horses and their menagerie of animals.
Sam has been with the practice since 2003 and is in charge of the drug and stock ordering and any special orders such as the allergy desensitisation programmes.
Sam is also running our Worm Egg Count scheme and is the one to ask for re worming advice and our strategic worming protocol.
Sam spent three years prior to joining the Equine Centre breaking and training horses at Dipping House farm in Belton. Sam is still an active rider and competitor in show jumping, dressage and eventing on her Spanish X Percheron ‘Dudeley’.
Her terrier ‘Sadie’ is our unofficial practice manager.
Julie joined the practice in 2004 after managing a local dental practice. As well as reception and invoicing Julie is in charge of the credit control and debt management for the practice and Ann’s paperwork and queries.

Many of you will know Julie from the show circuit and through her work at the Equine Spa & Rehab Centre at Hob House farm.
Outside of work she can be found out showing her coloured show cob ‘Clara’, working on her new youngster ‘Zoe’ and looking after her husband and two boys.
Marie joined our team in 2013 after many years of managing a dental practice. She is now enjoying combining her hobby with her work.
Marie has taken over the Insurances as Angela has now moved full time to our compounding pharmacy. She is also involved in invoicing and reception, and with Richard and Ellie’s paperwork.
Marie’s spare time is taken up with her cycling and fitness craze with her husband and grown up son.
Nicky joined the practice in 2014 after completing her Horse Care and Equine Management courses.
She also has office experience from a debt collection agency. She is mainly on reception.
Jen joined us in April 2016 after being a long term client of the practice.
She previously worked in reception at a Doctor’s surgery.
Jen deals with Damien and Lara’s paperwork, queries, general reception and assists Sam and the vets with the clinical work.
