Meet Our Team
Damien Cain BVSc MRCVS
Damien graduated from University of Melbourne, Australia in 1999. He worked for 4 years in mixed/equine practice in Australia before heading off to travel the world as many Australian vets do.
Over the next three years he worked as a locum equine vet in various parts of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, before settling down with a lovely girl from Yorkshire. He started working for us in 2006 for two years before returning to Australia with his now wife, Jo and their two sons.
We were very pleased that they decided to return and make Yorkshire their permanent home and we welcomed Damien back as our third partner in the Equine Centre in 2010. He has a special interest in equine reproduction and breeding with ‘problem’ mares as well as general equine internal medicine.
Senior Veterinary Surgeon
Richard Coppack BVSc GPCert(EqPrac) CertAVP(VetDerm) MRCVS
Richard is born and bred in Yorkshire and graduated from Liverpool University in 1985. He then worked in mixed, mainly large animal practice in Cumbria and Northamptonshire, before a stint doing voluntary service overseas.
Upon returning to the UK he worked in North Wales in companion animal practice dealing mainly with horses, before settling back in Yorkshire in 1991.
He started the Equine Veterinary Centre in 1999. Richard has now passed his Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology and is performing intradermal skin testing and providing advice both within our practice and as a referral service to surrounding veterinary practices.
His areas of interest are dermatology, surgery, ophthalmology, foot management and lameness. Richard combines work and a busy family life with three lively children and playing football in his spare time.
Senior Veterinary Surgeon
Ann Walker BBus BSc BVMS(Hons) GPCert(EqPrac) MRCVS
Ann was born in the UK but grew up in Australia and graduated from Murdoch University, Western Australia in 1998. She initially worked in a specialist equine surgical hospital in WA the dealt mainly with TB racing and reproduction along with high level competition horses.
She moved to the UK in 2002 and worked at Three Counties Equine Hospital in Gloucestershire for three years before moving to The Equine Veterinary Centre in 2005.
She became a partner in the practice in 2007. Her areas of special interest lie in medicine, respiratory, endoscopy, lameness & ultrasonography. Ann competed in both eventing and dressage in Australia and bred warmblood competition horses.
She spends her holidays scuba diving or trying to find the best food and wine. On her weekends off she likes to get out into the Dales and Moors walking with her partner and their two dogs.
Silvia Janska BSc (Hons) MSc BVetMed MRCVS
Silvia joined us in 2017 and brought her bubbly personality to Yorkshire after working in equine practices down South, well the Midlands, but it is all down South to us up here!
She is originally from Slovakia, grew up in Japan, then came to the UK for University. She speaks several languages and is, not surprisingly, a keen world traveller. When not working, studying, visiting friends and family and travelling she spends her time training her ex-racehorse “Comet” who also lives at Moorhouse on the livery yard, very handy for after work riding!
Ellie Griffiths MRCVS
Ellie has been with us since 2016 and as well as being a general practice vet since graduating from Liverpool Uni, she has developed a special interest in dentistry particularly in our senior horses.
She is studying to sit her specialist BAEDT dentistry exams in 2019. As well as being super strong and fit at work doing loads of dentals in a day, Ellie is also super strong and fit outside of work, where she competes as well as teaches classes in “cross fit” at the gym in Pontefract.
She tells us anyone can do it but judging by the picture below we might need some more convincing! Many of you will have met Ellie’s little terrier “Darcy” who can usually be found travelling around with Ellie in the car and looking for mischief.
Greg Franzreb DVM MRCVS
Greg joined us in 2018 from a practice in Nottinghamshire and has a wealth of experience, ranging from racehorses to shetlands. He has a particular interest in orthopaedics and lameness and seems to have been glued to our digital x-ray machine since he arrived.
When not out x-raying horses, he is keen on a round of golf, but is mainly kept busy with his two children, wife Sascha, who is a vet for the Department of Animal Health, and their lovely Vizla dog, Ruby. An interesting fact about Greg is that he is from Belgium originally and grew up speaking French as his first language!
Jo, who is also Damien’s wife; first started working for us part time in 2012. Little did she know that we would gradually increase her hours, until before she knew it, she was not only our practice manager but is also still sorting out all the accounts for the business.
Besides trying to organise all of us (more than a full time job lets face it!), Jo is also kept extremely busy running around after Damien, their two sons, the horses and their menagerie of animals. When she gets a chance she still likes to go riding herself and looks forward to the day the boys are all big enough to look after themselves…
Sam has been with the practice since 2003 and is in charge of the drug and stock ordering and any special orders such as the allergy desensitisation programmes.
Sam is also running our Worm Egg Count scheme and is the one to ask for re worming advice and our strategic worming protocol. Sam spent three years prior to joining the Equine Centre breaking and training horses at Dipping House farm in Belton.
Sam is still an active rider and competitor in show jumping, dressage and eventing on her Spanish X Percheron ‘Dudeley’. Her terrier ‘Sadie’ is our unofficial practice manager.
Marie joined our team in 2013 after many years of managing a dental practice. She is now enjoying combining her hobby with her work.
Marie has taken over the Insurances as Angela has now moved full time to our compounding pharmacy. She is also involved in invoicing and reception, and with Richard and Ellie’s paperwork.
Marie’s spare time is taken up with her cycling and fitness craze with her husband and grown up son.
Jen has been with us since 2016 and is in both reception and a veterinary assistant/nursing role. Jen is kept very busy outside of work, helping run a successful livery yard with her Mum, competing with her spotty horse “Spec” and organising her boyfriend Lee and their 2 cats, “Oreo” and “Biscuit”.
A hilarious fact about Jen is that she is also a huge bingo fan! Jen’s whole family (nearly!) ride and compete and she is working hard to convert us all to the spotty appaloosa side.
Emma joined us in 2018 from a fellow CVS, small animal practice, Beechwood Veterinary Hospital in Doncaster. Emma is mainly on reception and is in charge of our invoicing of accounts.
Outside of work she has her time taken up with her TB*Cob “Kindle”, and running with her Springer Spaniel “Sam”. And an interesting fact about Emma is that she can “speak” sign language… How cool is that!
